Abstract

The disaster-resilient community assistance program in Pontolo Village, Mananggu District, Boalemo Regency, was carried out to improve community knowledge and preparedness in dealing with natural disasters, particularly floods. Based on field observations and surveys, Pontolo Village is a flood-prone area due to high rainfall and its geographical conditions. Several problems were identified, including improper waste management, low community awareness of environmental cleanliness and drainage maintenance, and inadequate water dams and embankments. The assistance program consisted of three main activities: disaster mitigation socialization, disaster simulation, and the production of a disaster mitigation simulation video. The activities involved community members and school students through an educational and participatory approach. The results showed that the socialization activity improved participants' understanding of the causes, risks, and appropriate mitigation measures for disasters, while the simulation provided practical experience regarding evacuation procedures and disaster preparedness. The simulation video also served as a sustainable educational medium that could be reused by the community to improve their knowledge and preparedness. Therefore, this community assistance program contributed to improving the awareness and preparedness of the people of Pontolo Village and supported the development of a more disaster-resilient community.

Abstract

The Thematic Community Service Program (KKNT) of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo in Bukit Tingki Village, Popayato District, Pohuwato Regency, was conducted as a community service activity addressing energy conservation, food security, and environmental preservation. This program aimed to empower local resources through the utilization of ijuk fiber nets as a Green Curtain, improve community knowledge regarding energy conservation, and strengthen environmental awareness. The implementation methods included an initial survey, community outreach, discussions, training, mentoring, passion fruit planting, Green Curtain installation, and program evaluation. The activities were conducted through a participatory approach involving the village government, village officials, and the local community. The results showed that the Green Curtain program could contribute to improving community understanding and awareness of energy conservation and environmental preservation. The planting of passion fruit also provided additional benefits in terms of food security and potential economic value for the community. The people of Bukit Tingki Village showed positive enthusiasm toward the program and were able to utilize the passion fruit produced from the planted crops. Therefore, the utilization of ijuk fiber nets as a Green Curtain can serve as a community empowerment strategy that integrates environmental conservation, energy efficiency, food security, and local economic potential.
