Abstract

Perioperative hypothermia can be aggravated by the administration of low-temperature intravenous fluids, creating a need for controlled warming and monitoring. This study develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-based infusion fluid warmer prototype using a NodeMCU ESP8266, DHT11 sensor, 5 V DC relay, STC-1000 digital thermostat, an incandescent lamp as the heating element, and the Blynk application. A Research and Development approach was applied through circuit design, programming, prototype construction, thermal testing, and connectivity testing. The prototype used a 39-40°C control band, with the heater switched off at 40°C and reactivated at 39°C. Across seven initial conditions of 26.3-31.6°C, the recorded time to reach 40°C ranged from 5.7 to 21.45 minutes. NodeMCU connectivity tests at 1-10 m remained connected, with 0-second recorded delay at 1-9 m and 1 second at 10 m. The results demonstrate basic control and monitoring functionality; however, clinical suitability cannot be concluded because outlet-fluid temperature, sensor accuracy, long-term stability, electrical safety, and patient testing were not validated.
