Abstract

Sleep quality is an essential factor influencing postoperative recovery. Poor sleep may impair tissue regeneration, reduce immune response, and prolong the inflammatory phase, thereby delaying wound healing. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sleep quality and wound healing among postoperative patients at Puruk Cahu Regional Hospital. This study employed a cross-sectional design with purposive sampling. A total of 30 respondents were selected based on inclusion criteria: aged ?18 years, in the postoperative recovery phase, able to communicate, and willing to participate. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while wound healing was evaluated based on recovery duration until complete healing. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation test. The majority of respondents were late elderly (30.0%) and male (73.3%). Most patients (93.3%) reported good sleep quality, with 60.0% experiencing rapid wound healing. Spearman’s test revealed a significant relationship between sleep quality and wound healing (p = 0.048). Sleep quality is significantly associated with wound healing among postoperative patients. Nursing interventions to improve sleep quality should be integrated into postoperative care protocols to optimize patient recovery.
