Abstract

Conflicts between ushers and congregants in implementing worship service regulations may arise from differences in perceptions, needs, habits, and communication patterns, potentially disrupting order and relationships within the church community. This study aims to analyze potential usher–congregant conflicts, identify responses based on the five conflict management styles of the Thomas-Kilmann model, integrate Christian theological principles, and formulate an applicable conflict management model for usher ministry. This research employs a qualitative approach with a conceptual study design based on a literature review, enriched by analytical case study scenarios. Data were collected through a review of relevant journal articles and books on conflict management, interpersonal communication, pastoral leadership, reconciliation, and Christian theology. The data were analyzed descriptively and interpretively through thematic categorization, literature synthesis, and conflict scenario analysis. The findings indicate that the five Thomas-Kilmann styles—competing, accommodating, avoiding, compromising, and collaborating—can be applied situationally according to the nature of the conflict. Conflict management should integrate firmness in enforcing rules, compassionate communication, justice, forgiveness, and reconciliation. In conclusion, a preventive, responsive, and restorative model can serve as a foundation for developing SOPs and usher training to promote worship services that are both orderly and relational.
