Abstract

Education is an important thing in human life. Education has its own characteristics and challenges. Likewise with this article which discusses Taman Siswa as an Indonesian local education effort. Taman Siswa is the antithesis of the majority of education carried out by education. The method in compiling this article uses the historical method. Ki Hajar Dewantara became the pioneer of the formation of Taman Siswa and the fruits of his thoughts in Taman Siswa are still being carried out until now. As time went on, there were many dynamics experienced by Taman Siswa which became the basis for the struggle for independence through local education in accordance with the characteristics of the humanist, populist and nationalist Eastern nation.
