Abstract

Early marriage remains a significant social issue affecting human resource quality, community welfare, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Village Living Lab approach in supporting the achievement of SDG 8 through economic empowerment as a strategy to reduce early marriage in Montong Tangi Village. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving village government officials, the Family Assistance Team (Tim Pendamping Keluarga), community and religious leaders, adolescents, and local entrepreneurs selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldan˃a interactive model, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings reveal that the Village Living Lab approach strengthens collaboration among local government, communities, and stakeholders in implementing youth education, literacy improvement, skills development, and local-based economic empowerment programs. This approach enhances adolescents' awareness of the negative impacts of early marriage, encourages educational attainment and economic independence, and increases community participation in preventing early marriage. The study concludes that the Village Living Lab approach contributes to strengthening human capital development and supports the achievement of SDG 8 by improving the economic capacity of rural communities.
