Abstract

This research aims to design and implement an intelligent water purification system based on an Arduino microcontroller, utilizingnatural materials from plantation waste, namely coconut husks, banana stalks, and sugarcane pulp. The main objective of this research is to produce an efficient, economical, environmentally friendly, and sustainable water purifier prototype that is capable of real-time water quality monitoring thru sensor integration. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach supported by experimental testing using pH, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and turbidity sensors. The filtration system consists of four layers of natural materials: banana stalks, sugarcane pulp, coconut fiber, and activated charcoal. The test results show a significantimprovement in water quality: the pH value increased from 6.2 to 7.1, the TDS level decreased from 420 ppm to 310 ppm, and theturbidity level reduced from 10 NTU to 3 NTU. The 26% decrease in dissolved solids and up to 70% increase in water clarity demonstrate the high effectiveness of this natural filtration system. The integration of sensors and an Arduino microcontroller allows the system to work automatically and provide warnings when water quality is outside safe limits. This research contributes to the development of sustainable smart water purification technology and supports the concept of a circular economy by utilizing organic waste as a high-value filtration material.
