Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of competence and career development on employee performance. A quantitative research approach was employed using a survey method. The population of this study consisted of employees of the Regional Civil Service Agency of West Java Province, with the sampling technique determined according to research requirements. Data were collected through structured questionnaires developed based on indicators of competence, career development, and employee performance. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. Prior to hypothesis testing, classical assumption tests were conducted, including normality, multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity tests. The results of these tests indicated that the data met all classical assumptions, confirming that the regression model was appropriate for further analysis. The findings of the study reveal that competence has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Likewise, career development also shows a positive and significant influence on employee performance. Simultaneously, competence and career development have a significant effect on employee performance. These results indicate that improving employee competence, supported by a clear, fair, and sustainable career development system, plays a crucial role in enhancing employee performance. This study is expected to provide practical contributions to human resource management, particularly in formulating competency development strategies and career planning policies within the public sector to improve overall organizational performance.
