Abstract

This study examines the integration of da'wah communication and spiritual development management as contained in the Al-Manhaj as-Sawiy by Habib Zein bin Ibrahim bin Sumaith. The urgency of this study stems from the phenomenon of weakening spiritual dimensions in modern society that is not balanced by a systematic and well-managed da'wah approach. Amid rapid digitalization and globalization, many Muslims are losing access to consistent and holistic spiritual guidance. This study aims to identify the concept of da'wah communication embedded in the text, analyze the spiritual development management system it offers, and uncover the integration patterns of both within the context of contemporary Muslim community building. The method employed is a qualitative research approach through library research with content analysis of the kitab and relevant supporting sources. The findings reveal that Al-Manhaj as-Sawiy contains five pillars of the Alawi Path knowledge (ilmu), practice (amal), piety (wara'), fear of God (khauf), and sincerity (ikhlas) as the foundation of educative and transformative da'wah communication. Spiritual development management in this kitab prioritizes the stages of tazkiyatun nafs, structured worship, and the cultivation of noble character as the ultimate goal. The integration of da'wah communication and spiritual development is realized through interpersonal approaches, exemplary conduct of the da'i, and adaptive sustained strategies responding to contemporary challenges. These findings affirm the relevance of classical Islamic texts in addressing da'wah and spirituality challenges of contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of preventive da’wah by the Indonesian Islamic Da’wah Council (Dewan Dakwah Islamiyah Indonesia / DDII) of Tangerang Regency in providing risk education on LGBT behavior among students. The background of this research is based on the growing concern over behavioral deviations among students, the strong influence of digital media, and the need for an educational, persuasive, and preventive da’wah approach. This study aims to describe the implementation of preventive da’wah by DDII Tangerang Regency, analyze the obstacles and efforts to overcome them, examine its effectiveness in shaping students’ moral and religious awareness, and formulate a preventive da’wah implementation model based on risk education that is relevant for da’wah institutions, schools, and families. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consist of the Chairman of the Shura Council of DDII Tangerang Regency, the General Chairman/Chairman of the Executive Board of DDII Tangerang Regency, a representative of DDII Muslimat with an educational background, and a DDII member who works as a medical doctor. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of the study show that the implementation of preventive da’wah by DDII Tangerang Regency is carried out through socialization programs, spiritual guidance, counseling, educational lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions in school environments. The materials presented include strengthening Islamic creed, noble character, the concept of human nature (fitrah), Islamic perspectives on deviant behavior, and the physical and mental health risks associated with risky behavior. The obstacles encountered include the sensitivity of the issue, the need to improve the capacity of da’i, the lack of optimal continuous evaluation, the influence of social media, and the need to strengthen coordination with schools, parents, and relevant stakeholders. The effectiveness of the program can be seen in students’ positive responses, their enthusiasm in discussions, and the support from schools and parents, although long-term changes in attitudes have not yet been comprehensively measured. This study formulates a collaborative preventive da’wah model based on risk education involving DDII, schools, families, medical professionals, and digital media.
