Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition with a steadily rising prevalence that can lead to various complications if not properly managed. In addition to physical symptoms, hypertension can also affect patients’ psychological well-being, one of which is stress. Prolonged stress can worsen blood pressure control, making nonpharmacological interventions necessary to help reduce stress levels. One such complementary therapy is the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT). This study aimed to determine the effect of the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) on stress levels in adult patients with hypertension in Trangsan Village, within the service area of the Gatak Community Health Center. This study employed a quantitative design using a pre-experimental method through a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 30 respondents selected using purposive sampling in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire before and after the SEFT intervention. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. Normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, while bivariate analysis used the Paired Sample T-Test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that the mean stress level before the SEFT intervention was 19.23 ± 3.884. After the SEFT intervention, there was a change in the stress level, After receiving SEFT intervention, stress levels decreased, with the average score dropping to 10.47 ± 2.360. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 (ρ < 0.05) with a mean difference of 8.767, indicating a significant reduction in stress levels following SEFT therapy. Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) has a significant effect on reducing stress levels in adult patients with hypertension in Trangsan Village, within the service area of the Gatak Community Health Center. SEFT therapy can be used as a safe, easy-to-administer complementary therapy that supports holistic nursing care in helping to reduce stress in patients with hypertension.
