Abstract

General Background Relatively speaking, it is the oldest educational institution in Indonesia that has managed to survive following the dynamics of modern development. Specific Background Pondok Pesantren Qowiyyul Ulum Tahfidzul Quran accommodates teenagers facing complex social problems including academic challenges, social media issues, free association, and drugs originating from broken homes. Knowledge Gap Previous studies lack deep investigation into how a comprehensive boarding school system manages and guides adolescents with troubled backgrounds through strict daily scheduling and moral mentoring. Aims This research aims to analyze the role of the boarding school in improving the psychology of students. Results The qualitative descriptive research shows that the role of the boarding system involves habituation, example, coaching, sincerity, providing easy-to-understand information, and being kind, which positively shapes students' moral development. Novelty The integration of strict round-the-clock regulatory discipline with compassionate mentoring methods successfully creates structured protective factors for high-risk adolescent students within a challenging urban neighborhood environment. Implications These findings suggest that implementing structured boarding school principles can serve as an effective alternative framework for managing and rehabilitating troubled youth in modern educational settings. Highlights:  Boarding schools utilize habituation, exemplary modeling, and consistent coaching to manage adolescent behavioral challenges. Moral development among troubled students is positively shaped by core religious principles and structured daily routines. Comprehensive supervision systems effectively establish protective factors and control risk behaviors in urban residential institutions.
