Abstract

In today’s educational system, exams play a crucial role in measuring students’ knowledge and academic skills. However, whether exams are true measure of intelligence is still one of the most controversial issues in education. In this regard, many educators believe that this is an effective method to reflect students’ academic abilities. On the other hand, some people argue that real intelligence cannot be adequately measured by exam scores alone. This article aims to analyze the role and importance of exams in assessing students’ knowledge and to examine some limitations of exam-based assessment. Exams primarily measure students' theoretical knowledge and reflect how well they recall specific information, rather than assessing their creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills. Therefore, it is recommended that educational institutions combine examinations with projects, presentations, and portfolios that can provide a broader assessment of intellectual abilities.
