Abstract

This study examines the influence of the school environment on children's character development among fifth-grade students at SD Pelita Harapan, West Pontianak, with 22 students as subjects. The school environment encompassing physical, social, and cultural dimensions—functions as an ecological context that gradually shapes children's moral dispositions and behavior. The study employs a mixed methods approach with an embedded design, integrating Likert scale surveys, participatory observation, and in-depth interviews. Results indicate that the quality of teacher-student interaction, classroom climate, and consistent enforcement of school rules correlate positively with children's character indicators, particularly responsibility, honesty, and respect. These findings confirm that schools are not merely institutions for knowledge transmission, but structured and sustained ecosystems for character formation.
