Abstract

This study explores the intellectual contribution of Imam Al-Ghazali in shaping the paradigm of Islamic education and its relevance to the challenges of contemporary civilization, departing from a deep concern over the phenomenon of axiological imbalance in the era of globalization, where the acceleration of scientific and technological progress runs in the opposite direction to the maturity of moral values and the depth of spiritual consciousness of modern humans that is increasingly eroding. Using a library research approach  based on comparative-critical and descriptive-qualitative analysis of a representative corpus of scientific literature, this study investigates three main dimensions at once: Al-Ghazali's epistemological contribution to the trajectory of Islamic civilization, the multidimensional influence of his thought on the education, philosophy, and morality of Muslim society, and his transformative relevance in responding to the complexity of the challenges of modern civilization continue to move dynamically. The findings of the study reveal that Al-Ghazali's great legacy rests on the harmonious orchestration of rational reason, the authority of revelation, and spiritual appreciation as epistemological trias that are mutually supportive and inseparable from each other, placing the internalization of morality as the highest maqashid of education, carrying out intelligent selective criticism of the Greek philosophical tradition without falling into total rejection, and initiating the doctrine  of tazkiyatun nafs as a way of purifying the soul which is a fundamental prerequisite for the manifestation of moral karimah in social life. This study concludes that Al-Ghazali's holistic educational paradigm is not at all just a historical artifact of classical Islamic civilization frozen in ancient texts, but serves as an epistemological compass that remains alive, productive, and transformative in guiding the construction of a modern education system that is intellectually, morally, and spiritually intact in the midst of the vortex of the crisis of contemporary digital civilization.
