Abstract

The Manpower Agency is a regional government institution responsible for managing employment affairs in Medan City. As a developing public service institution, it faces several challenges related to employee performance, particularly in terms of career growth opportunities and work motivation. These factors are considered essential in improving employee productivity and organizational effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the influence of career development and work motivation on employee performance at the Medan City Manpower Agency. The research focuses on civil servant employees, with a total population of 58 respondents. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression, supported by partial testing (t-test), simultaneous testing (F-test), and coefficient of determination (R²). The results show that career development has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, with a significance value of 0.041 (<0.05) and t-count (2.089) greater than t-table (1.673). Similarly, work motivation also has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, with a significance value of 0.041 (<0.05) and t-count (4.299) greater than t-table (1.673). Simultaneously, career development and work motivation significantly influence employee performance, as indicated by the F-test result with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and F-count (19.333) greater than F-table (3.165). The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.413 indicates that 41.3% of employee performance is influenced by career development and work motivation, while the remaining 58.7% is affected by other variables not examined in this study. These findings highlight the importance of improving career systems and motivational strategies to enhance employee performance in public sector institutions.
