Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) digital addiction as a factor that encourages parents to choose Islamic boarding schools, (2) the role of disciplinary character education in transforming students' behavior, and (3) the transformation of the role of Islamic boarding schools as holistic character education institutions in the digital era. The study uses a qualitative approach with the type of library research. Data were obtained through documentation studies of various relevant scientific articles and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that digital addiction is one of the factors that encourage parents to choose Islamic boarding schools, but limiting gadget use is not the main goal of Islamic boarding school education, but rather part of the character education system that forms discipline, responsibility, self-control, and spirituality of students. This study also shows that Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have transformed into educational institutions that adapt to technological developments by strengthening digital literacy while remaining grounded in Islamic values. Therefore, Islamic boarding schools cannot be understood merely as digital rehabilitation centers, but as models of holistic character education capable of shaping a generation of Muslims with character, adaptability, and responsibility in utilizing digital technology.
