Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of Media Sifat Cahaya (MESICA) in science learning on the topic of the properties of light and to explore students’ responses to its use during the learning process. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method conducted in a fifth-grade classroom at SDN Baru 06 Pagi, East Jakarta. Participants consisted of a classroom teacher and selected students chosen through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data trustworthiness was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that MESICA was implemented through learning activities involving observation, experimentation, and discussion, enabling students to engage actively in the learning process. The use of MESICA helped students develop a more concrete understanding of the properties of light through direct learning experiences. Students also demonstrated positive responses reflected in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. They showed improved understanding of the learning material, enthusiasm during classroom activities, and active participation in experiments and group discussions. These findings suggest that MESICA can be used as an alternative instructional medium to support active and meaningful science learning in elementary schools.
