Abstract

Riverside settlements in Galumpang Village play a vital role in the lives of the local community. However, settlement planning that fails to consider environmental factors can lead to river degradation; unchecked human activities—such as the discharge of domestic and industrial waste—cause water pollution that negatively impacts public health and the sustainability of the river ecosystem itself. This study aims to design housing for the Galumpang Village riverside area in Tolitoli Regency that is adaptable to the environment, specifically addressing the flood-prone nature of the riverbank. A qualitative descriptive method using a case study approach was employed. Data collection involved field observations, interviews, documentation, literature reviews, and spatial mapping, incorporating a "riverfront" development concept. The results demonstrate that redesigning the Galumpang Village riverside settlement yields housing designs resilient to floods and river overflows; furthermore, the study provides recommendations for spatial planning, the development of riverside public spaces, improved accessibility, river buffer zone protection, and the sustainable enhancement of the settlement's environmental quality.
