Abstract

The spraying system for grape cultivation requires uniform fluid distribution to ensure that water and plant-supporting solutions can be applied effectively. This study aims to evaluate the performance of a solar-powered overhead spraying system integrated with a solar panel cooling system through fluid flow analysis and the use of different nozzle types. The piping installation uses ½-inch PVC pipes, with pipe specifications determined based on JIS K 6742, while the design of the spraying system and evaluation of spray characteristics refer to ASABE S330.1. Testing was conducted by observing pressure, flow rate, and head loss in the piping network, as well as comparing the spray characteristics produced by full cone nozzle and misting nozzle. The test results indicate a pressure decrease along the piping network due to energy losses; however, the fluid can still be distributed to the final spraying point. The full cone nozzle produces a higher flow rate and a more uniform spray distribution, whereas the misting nozzle produces finer droplets. The results demonstrate that applying JIS K 6742 for pipe selection and ASABE S330.1 for the spraying system can support the design of an effective solar-powered grape spraying system with an integrated configuration. Keywords: overhead spraying system, fluid flow, head loss, nozzle, droplet
