Abstract

Body Mass Index (BMI) is an indicator of nutritional status associated with the risk of impaired glucose metabolism. An increased BMI may lead to insulin resistance, which contributes to elevated blood glucose levels. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) categories and random blood glucose levels among adults in Citamiang Village. This research employed a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 25 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through measurements of body weight, height, and random blood glucose using the Point of Care Testing (POCT) method. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that most respondents were classified as overweight (40%), while 60% had normal random blood glucose levels. The Spearman Rank test yielded a correlation coefficient of r = 0.496 with a significance value of p = 0.012. These findings indicate a statistically significant positive relationship with moderate correlation strength between BMI categories and random blood glucose levels. Higher BMI categories tended to be associated with higher random blood glucose levels. In conclusion, Body Mass Index is significantly associated with random blood glucose levels among adults in Citamiang Village and may serve as a simple screening indicator for the early detection of metabolic disorders.
