Abstract

Background: Weight faltering is a condition of failure to achieve appropriate weight gain, which can affect the growth and development of children under five. Maternal knowledge and attitudes are important factors in preventing weight faltering. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes and the incidence of weight faltering in children aged six to 23 months in the service area of Puskemas (CommunityHealthcare Center) Baturraden II. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 85 mothers of children under five selected through random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires assessing maternal knowledge and attitudes, as well as growth monitoring records (KMS). Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. Results: Most respondents had good knowledge (55.3%) and positive attitudes (55.3%). Weight faltering was identified in 43.5% of children. The analysis showed a significant association between maternal knowledge and weight faltering (p = 0.042), while maternal attitude was not significantly associated with weight faltering (p =0.269). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge is associated with the incidence of weight faltering in children aged six to 23 months, whereas maternal attitude shows no significant correlation with the incidence of weight faltering in children aged six to 23 months. Health education for mothers is needed to prevent weight faltering.
