Abstract

Background: The first 1,000 days of life represent a critical period that determines child growth and development. However, understanding of this period among pregnant women at Pulau Batu Community Health Center remains low. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women regarding the first 1,000 days of life. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach involving 33 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The results showed an increase in maternal knowledge from the sufficient to the good category, accompanied by a shift toward more positive attitudes after the health education intervention. Structured education demonstrated benefits in improving pregnant women's understanding and attitudes regarding the first 1,000 days of life. Conclusion: Health education significantly improved the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women regarding the first 1,000 days of life. This educational program may be routinely integrated into antenatal care services at community health centers to improve maternal preparedness during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period.
