Abstract

Background: Flies are a type of arthropod that act as mechanical vectors in the transmission of various disease-causing agents to humans. The accumulation and piling of domestic waste constitute an ideal environment for the proliferation of these insect populations. Objective: This study aims to examine and analyze the practical effectiveness of mechanical methods in the form of fly traps as tools for reducing fly density at the Temporary Waste Disposal Site (TPS) in the Aur Duri Market area. Method: A quasi-experimental study using a quantitative approach was conducted. The study employed a posttest-only control group design, in which the significance of differences among variables was tested using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by a Tukey post hoc test. The independent variables included three mechanical control methods: fly traps, light traps, and sticky traps. The dependent variable was the cumulative number of flies successfully trapped. The number of sample replications was determined using the formula , yielding a total of five observation-point replications. Results: The empirical analysis yielded a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a highly significant difference in the number of flies captured among the different trap types (fly traps, sticky traps, and light traps). Conclusion: The sticky trap (mean = 26.2 flies) and fly trap (mean = 21 flies) demonstrated significantly greater effectiveness in capturing flies than the light trap (mean = 6 flies).
