Abstract

The imposition of sanctions on nurses is intended to increase their work motivation so that they can perform at their maximum capacity while working. Sanctions are given to nurses who commit mistakes and violations, with the aim of motivating them to stop deviant behavior and directing them towards positive conduct. Sanctions serve to discipline nurses in carrying out their duties. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between sanctions and nurses’ work motivation at Sari Mutiara Lubuk Pakam General Hospital. This study employed a quantitative research design. The research method used was an analytical correlation with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study consisted of all nurses working at Sari Mutiara Lubuk Pakam General Hospital, totaling 31 individuals who had completed mass training. The research instrument utilized was a questionnaire. The study findings indicated that sanctions for nurses were in the doubtful category at 41.4%, and nurses’ work motivation was in the fairly good category at 41.9%. Based on the statistical test results, the Spearman Rank correlation yielded a p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05), which means that there is a relationship between sanctions and nurses’ work motivation with a correlation coefficient of 0.491, indicating a moderate correlation. It can thus be concluded that sanctions significantly influence nurses’ work motivation in order to prevent mistakes and improve discipline in performing their duties.
