Abstract

This paper explores the impact of education policies on Indigenous communities in Indonesia, specifically examining how these policies ensure cultural justice in education. While national policies aim to promote educational equity, they often overlook the unique cultural and linguistic needs of Indigenous students. This study utilizes ethnographic methods to analyze how current educational frameworks integrate—or fail to integrate—Indigenous knowledge and practices. Findings suggest that the standardization of the national curriculum often conflicts with local traditions, limiting the educational experience for Indigenous students. The paper argues for the adoption of culturally responsive policies that recognize Indigenous identities, worldviews, and knowledge systems. It calls for collaborative efforts between Indigenous communities, policymakers, and educational institutions to create a more inclusive and culturally just education system that respects the diversity of Indonesia’s Indigenous populations.
