Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation, methods, and impact of the Tahsin Al-Qur'an (Quranic recitation improvement) Program, specifically focusing on the Pre-Tahsin group (The Al-Husnaa’ Group) at the Grand Mosque of Jeneponto. A mosque-community-based Tahsin Al-Qur'an program is a crucial initiative in addressing the challenge of Quranic illiteracy in society. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the Tahsin administrators and teachers, as well as participatory observation and curriculum document analysis. The findings indicate that the program implementation runs systematically through three phases: (1) Recruitment and Placement (based on the results of a placement test), (2) The Learning Process using the talaqqi musyafahah method (direct face-to-face instruction) which focuses on makharijul huruf (articulation points of letters) and sifatul huruf (attributes of letters), and (3) Periodic Evaluation based on target achievements per level. The main impact of the program is a significant increase in reading ability among the Pre-Tahsin participants, where many attendees who initially struggled now fluently read the Qur'an and have begun applying basic tajwid (recitation rules). This research concludes that the mosque-based tahsin program proves effective as a model for non-formal Islamic education that successfully builds a strong foundation in Quranic literacy through dedicated teachers and a systematic curriculum.
