Abstract

Economic conditions characterized by increasing living expenses and limited access to financing often encourage people to rely on interest-based loans to meet their financial needs. On the other hand, Islam strictly prohibits riba in loan transactions. This article aims to analyze the practice of interest-based lending from the perspective of contemporary fiqh muamalah. The study employs a normative legal research method based on the Qur'an, Hadith, fiqh literature, fatwas, and relevant academic sources. The findings indicate that interest-based lending constitutes riba, which is prohibited in Islamic law. Therefore, strengthening Islamic financial literacy and expanding Sharia-compliant financing alternatives are essential.
