Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a reproductive health problem frequently experienced by women of childbearing age (WUS). One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to treat vaginal discharge is boiled water from green betel leaves and basil leaves, which contain antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Objective. To determine the difference in effectiveness of boiled water from green betel leaves and basil leaves in reducing vaginal discharge in women of childbearing age in RT 02 RW 06 Bojongsari Baru, Depok City. Methods. This study used a quantitative method with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 20 respondents, divided into two groups of 10 respondents each. The intervention was administered twice daily for 7 days. Data analysis used a Paired Sample T-Test and an Independent Sample T-Test. Results. The average vaginal discharge score in the green betel leaf group decreased from 12.90 to 8.50, a decrease of 4.40, while in the basil leaf group, it decreased from 12.30 to 9.40, a decrease of 2.90. The Independent Sample T-Test yielded a t-value of 3.421 and a p-value of 0.003 (p<0.05), indicating a significant difference in effectiveness between the two groups. Conclusion. Boiled green betel leaf and basil leaf water are both effective in reducing vaginal discharge in women of childbearing age, but boiled green betel leaf water is more effective than boiled basil leaf water.
