Abstract

This article aims to examine the social institutions of the Islamic community during the time of Uthman ibn Affan and Ali ibn Abi Talib. Uthman ibn Affan and Ali ibn Abi Talib were among the closest companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who belonged to the group of Assabiqunal Awwalun. During their leadership, the condition of social institutions within the Islamic community was already in disarray. Institutions themselves are interpreted as formal social behavior systems as well as customs and norms regulating human behavior in society. This article employs historical research methodology with four stages: heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The data collection technique involves library research on relevant sources. The research findings indicate: (1) in the early days of his rule, Uthman still inherited the state authority that was previously high during Umar's rule. However, due to his advanced age, the management of the state was mostly handled by his closest relatives. However, the allegations of nepotism leveled against him were not proven true; (2) during Ali's leadership, the condition of Islamic community institutions became even more chaotic. Ali inherited a chaotic government from the time of Uthman, leading to unavoidable civil wars during his rule.

This research analyzes the role of Civic and Pancasila Education (PPKn) in equipping students with information literacy skills. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through literature reviews and in-depth interviews with PPKn lecturers and students from multiple universities. The findings emphasize the effectiveness of integrating digital technologies, case-based learning, and simulations of information management into the PPKn curriculum. The study concludes that PPKn plays a dual role as a medium for internalizing Pancasila values and a strategic tool for fostering critical literacy skills among students in the digital age.

Abstract

This article aims to explain how the involvement and success of the Persatoean Arab Indonesia (PAI) in integrating Arab-Hadrami society into a part of the Indonesian nation. PAI was originally a social organization founded in Semarang in 1934. But along the way, this organization turned into a political organization because of the demands of its time. This article uses historical research methods in four steps, i.e., heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The main source in this article is the personal archive of A. R. Baswedan, organizational archives of Persatoean Arab Indonesia (PAI), and Koempoelan Toelisan Gerakan al-Irsjad. While the supporting sources come from contemporaneous newspapers, e.g., Pewarta Arab, Insaf, Matahari, Al-Ma’arif, ad-Dahna, Hadhramaut dan Aliran Baroe, as well as secondary sources derived from books, journals, and other scientific articles relevant to this topic. The results showed that: (1) Persatoean Arab Indonesia (PAI) was founded as a solution to reconcile the opposition among sayidi and non-sayid groups that divided the Arab-Hadrami community in the Dutch East Indies. Along the way, PAI then gained the support of the two conflicting groups; (2) PAI succeeded in integrating the Arab-Hadrami community into part of the Indonesian nation. Although at first the Indonesianized of this organization was doubtful, with its various programs, PAI managed to attract sympathy from nationalists and the Indonesian people that they were part of this nation.

Abstract

Abstract: The study of normative and historical views has become a widely discussed topic among Muslim scholars, particularly in Indonesia. Fazlur Rahman and Amin Abdullah are two key figures in the development of these views, emphasizing the importance of reinterpreting religious teachings in the context of the times to clarify issues of human religiosity. This article aims to discuss the influence of these views in Islamic history and underscore the significance of historical analysis for understanding the diverse Muslim population. The library research method was used to collect, read, record, and analyze sources. The study revealed that many scholars of Islamic history still adopt a normative view, despite the need for a historicity view to comprehend Islamic history based on factual data, given the diverse Muslim population worldwide. With the rapid advancement of technology and science, rigid normative views are increasingly being replaced by flexible historical views, which contextualize events in their era.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the phenomenon of polarization that is occurred among the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta during the period 1914-1950 and the influencing factors. The research examines the polarization of the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta using a sociological approach. The concepts utilized in this study are polarization, conflict, and social integration. The researchers employs the Social Polarization theory to observe sharp differences between social groups within the society, leading to their isolation and conflicts. The research follows a historical research method with four stages: source collection, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Two types of data sources are utilized: primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that the polarization among the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta from 1914 to 1950 occurred due to three factors: the Fatwa Solo, the differences in perspectives on titles and traditions, and orientation toward the homeland. The forms of polarization within the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta between 1914-1950 emerged through social organizations, education, and newspapers. Other results related to the impact of polarization among the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta from 1914-1950 manifest in two aspects: the search for unity organizations among the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta and the integration of the Arab-Hadrami community in Surakarta into Indonesia
