Abstract

Developing tourism potential in a region in Indonesia is challenging. This is due to local government regulations and local beliefs. Researchers conducted research in an area that has established rules and regulations, the city of Banda Aceh which is known as Veranda of Mecca, therefore tourism is a very suitable place to increase visits and income in the city of Banda Aceh, called religious tourism, specifically in the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque area. The development of religious tourism is greatly influenced by the socio-cultural practices of local communities, who have different behaviors and attitudes. Individual behavior in an area greatly influences the development of that area. Therefore, the researcher aims to examine the comparative level of behavioral aspects of tourists and the community towards tourism development, especially religious tourism in the Baiturrahaman Grand Mosque area. The method used in this study was a mixed method, qualitative and quantitative, which was obtained by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents, including tourists and local residents; conducting field observations at the research location; and conducting in-depth interviews with eight key informants, namely local community leaders, tourism practitioners, government officials, and academics. This literature review can be applied by stakeholders as an evaluation tool in developing tourism, especially religious tourism.
