Abstract

Rainwater runoff problems in road areas may occur due to high rainfall intensity and the limited capacity of the soil to infiltrate water into the ground. Such conditions can lead to waterlogging on road shoulders and in the surrounding areas, potentially disrupting the function and comfort of road users and accelerating road pavement deterioration. One alternative that can be implemented to reduce surface runoff is the use of infiltration wells as a rainwater conservation measure. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of rainwater infiltration using infiltration wells on the road shoulder along the Tanete Rilau road section, Barru Regency. The study was conducted by collecting data on rainfall, existing road shoulder conditions, catchment area, soil characteristics, and the dimensions and conditions of the proposed infiltration wells. The analysis included the calculation of rainfall intensity and runoff discharge, the volume of rainwater entering the infiltration wells, storage capacity, and soil infiltration capacity. The efficiency of the infiltration wells was determined based on the ratio between the volume of rainwater successfully infiltrated into the soil and the volume of rainwater runoff entering the system. The results of this study are expected to provide an overview of the efficiency level of infiltration wells in reducing rainwater runoff on road shoulders and to determine their feasibility as an environmentally sustainable drainage management alternative. The implementation of infiltration wells is expected to increase rainwater infiltration, reduce the potential for waterlogging, and support a more effective and sustainable road drainage system.
