Abstract

Uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources triggers various environmental problems, such as land-use change, deforestation, and the sacrcity of the resources themselves. This situation indicates that natural resource management should not focus solely on technical aspects; rather, the way humans perceive and interpt nature also plays a crucial factor. This study aims to analyze the integration of knowledge, particularly scientific and local knowledge, from an epistemological perspective in sustainable natural resource management. It employs a library research method using a descriptive-analytical approach trough the review of relevant literature. The research findings indicate that scientific knowledge possesses the advantages of systematization, structure, and data-driven foundations, making it academically accountable; however, it tends to lack contextual depth and is often overly general. On the other hand, local knowledge is more adaptive and contextual, yet limited in terms of universal application. Thus, the integration of these two types of knowledge can produce a more comprehensive approach to understanding socio-ecological dynamics and strengthen the relevance of policies to local conditions. Consequently, the integration of knowledge is expected to realize sustainable natural resource management and strengthen understanding of the importance of the epistemological dimension in environmental management practices.
