Abstract

Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality, influenced by various factors, including pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and obstetric history. This study aimed to analyze the association between pre-pregnancy body mass index and obstetric history with the incidence of preeclampsia at the Pujon Community Health Center. The study employed an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 30 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Data were obtained from medical records, maternal and child health (MCH) books, and data collection forms. Univariate analysis was used to describe the respondents’ characteristics, while the relationship between variables was analyzed using the Contingency Coefficient test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (70.0%) and had a normal BMI (40.0%), while 56.7% fell into the overweight and obese categories. Hypertension was found in 26.7% of the respondents. The analysis results showed no significant association between pre-pregnancy BMI and the incidence of hypertension as a manifestation of preeclampsia (p=0.332), although there was a weak positive trend (r=0.293). These findings indicate that pre-pregnancy BMI cannot yet be used as a sole predictor of preeclampsia in the study population. Further research with a larger sample size and consideration of other maternal risk factors is needed to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of these relationships as a basis for strengthening the early detection of preeclampsia in antenatal care.
