Successful breastfeeding is a key indicator of improved maternal and infant health; however, it remains influenced by various factors, including the quality of lactation counseling provided by healthcare professionals. Lactation counseling is expected to enhance mothers’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in breastfeeding, thereby supporting successful breastfeeding. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the quality of lactation counseling on breastfeeding success among postpartum mothers at Dr. H. Andi Abdurrahman Noor Regional General Hospital. The study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 30 postpartum mothers selected using purposive sampling. The quality of lactation counseling was measured using a questionnaire, while breastfeeding success was assessed through an observation sheet based on breastfeeding technique, latch, milk ejection, and the type of infant feeding. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods, employing the Contingency Coefficient test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the majority of respondents rated the quality of counseling as “fair” and “good” (43.3% each), while breastfeeding success reached 86.7%. Statistical analysis revealed no significant association between the quality of lactation counseling and breastfeeding success (p=0.170; r=0.325). These findings suggest that breastfeeding success in this study is likely influenced more by other factors, such as breastfeeding experience, parity, family support, and the mother-baby rooming-in system. Therefore, continuous efforts to improve the quality of lactation counseling are still necessary, taking into account the various factors that influence breastfeeding success.
