Abstract

Premature birth constitutes a critical global health challenge with severe consequences for neonatal survival, particularly due to thermoregulatory instability as its primary complication. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) on body temperature stabilization among premature infants at UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Lifofa. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design was applied to 15 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Axillary body temperature was measured before and after the intervention, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Results indicated that 73.3% of respondents demonstrated body temperature improvement following the intervention, yielding Z = -2.947 with a significance value of 0.003 (p < 0.05). KMC effectively stabilized neonatal body temperature through a physiologically adaptive skin-to-skin contact conduction mechanism. It is concluded that KMC significantly influences thermal stabilization of premature infants in primary healthcare settings, and is therefore recommended as a standard neonatal care protocol at community health centers.
