Abstract

The high maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is partly attributable to insufficient knowledge among pregnant women regarding pregnancy danger signs. The Maternal and Child Health Book (MCH Book) is a print-based medium with strong potential as an effective maternal health education tool. This study aimed to analyze pregnant women's knowledge levels before and after education, identify the influence of MCH Book-based print media education, and describe the sociodemographic characteristics of respondents at UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Lifofa. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Prior to the intervention, 36.7% of respondents had poor knowledge and 43.3% had moderate knowledge. Following the intervention, 86.7% achieved good knowledge. Statistical analysis yielded Z = -4.490 with p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming a significant effect of MCH Book education on improving pregnant women's knowledge of pregnancy danger signs. These findings imply the need for structured optimization of MCH Book utilization within antenatal care services at primary health facilities.
