Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic health problem commonly experienced by the elderly, requiring long-term management. One way to manage hypertension is through low-salt diet therapy, but in practice, this is often influenced by psychological factors, including self-efficacy. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and adherence to low-salt diet therapy in elderly people with hypertension. The study employed a cross-sectional, quantitative, correlational design. The sample consisted of 93 elderly individuals selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire that measured self-efficacy and adherence to a low-salt diet, and analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and adherence to a low-salt diet. Elderly people with higher levels of self-efficacy tended to be more consistent in implementing dietary recommendations. These findings confirm that self-efficacy plays a crucial role in shaping health behaviours among elderly individuals with hypertension. Therefore, nursing interventions that emphasize strengthening self-efficacy, continuing education, and family involvement have the potential to enhance dietary compliance and support more effective control of hypertension.
