Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of entrepreneurial motivation among Generation Z students in the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, as well as the influence of the campus environment and social support on this motivation. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological approach, providing an in-depth description of the factors that drive students to engage in entrepreneurship. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving active students from various study programs within the Faculty of Islamic Studies. The results indicate that entrepreneurial motivation among Generation Z students is influenced by a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors include the desire for financial independence, the expression of personal hobbies and talents, and the pursuit of early work experience. Extrinsic factors involve encouragement from family, influence from lecturers, a supportive campus environment, and economic pressure. Financial independence emerged as the dominant motivational factor, followed by the desire for self-development and the acquisition of practical skills. Social environments and family support play a significant role in strengthening students’ confidence to start and sustain their businesses. The study recommends that the university develop entrepreneurship programs that are integrated with students’ interests and potentials, thereby fostering a sustainable entrepreneurial spirit among Generation Z students.
