Abstract

This study aims to analyze the traditions of pilgrimage (ziarah) and tahlilan as forms of Nusantara Islam practices at the tomb of Syeikh Maulana Ibrahim Asmaraqandi, as well as to examine their social and cultural functions within society. Nusantara Islam represents a form of Islamic expression that develops through the acculturation process between Islamic teachings and local culture, resulting in contextual religious practices that are widely accepted by the community. One of its manifestations is the tradition of pilgrimage and tahlilan, which continues to be preserved to this day. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the tomb of Syeikh Maulana Ibrahim Asmaraqandi holds historical and religious significance as part of the Islamic propagation network in the archipelago, shaped by the interaction between oral traditions, local history, and socio-religious dynamics. The practice of pilgrimage involves a series of rituals such as greetings, recitation of the Qur’an, tahlil, and prayers, reflecting a synthesis of religious values and local cultural elements. Furthermore, the traditions of pilgrimage and tahlilan play significant social and cultural roles, including strengthening social bonds, fostering solidarity, and serving as a medium for preserving religious and cultural values. These practices also contribute to the formation of collective consciousness and provide economic benefits for the local community through trade activities around the pilgrimage site. In conclusion, the traditions of pilgrimage and tahlilan at the tomb of Syeikh Maulana Ibrahim Asmaraqandi are not merely religious practices but also integral components of the social, cultural, and economic life of the community. These traditions reflect the adaptive, inclusive, and contextual characteristics of Nusantara Islam in responding to societal changes.
