Abstract

This study aims to map and analyze the development of research on mathematical reasoning in mathematics learning using a bibliometric approach. The data were obtained from articles indexed in the Scopus database published between 2020 and 2026. Literature search was conducted using Boolean logic on the TITLE-ABS-KEY field with keywords related to mathematical reasoning and mathematics education. A total of 350 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using Biblioshiny, an interface of the Bibliometrix package in RStudio. The bibliometric analysis included annual publication trends, document characteristics, author collaboration patterns, country productivity, source journals, and research topic trends. The results show a significant increase in publications on mathematical reasoning, particularly from 2023 to 2025, indicating growing research interest in this topic. The United States and Indonesia emerged as the most productive countries, while several institutions focusing on mathematics education contributed prominently to the literature. Trend topic analysis reveals that mathematical reasoning remains the dominant theme, alongside emerging topics such as artificial intelligence, language models, and design research. These findings indicate a shift toward integrating technology and innovative approaches in mathematics education research. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the research landscape on mathematical reasoning and highlights potential directions for future studies, particularly in developing more contextual and practice-oriented research in mathematics learning.
