Abstract

Productive zakat is a community empowerment strategy oriented toward improving the economic independence of mustahik. However, the success of the program is strongly influenced by the accuracy of selecting empowerment assets that are appropriate to the social conditions, environment, and capacities of the beneficiaries. This community service activity aimed to describe the mentoring process in selecting productive zakat assets based on local potential in Sooko Village, Sooko District, Ponorogo Regency. This activity used a descriptive qualitative approach through field observation, semi-structured interviews, and discussions with academics, community leaders, volunteers, zakat institutions, and prospective beneficiaries. The results showed that four main aspects formed the basis for asset selection: empowerment objectives, community social conditions, natural conditions, and asset characteristics. Based on these considerations, stingless bee cultivation (Trigona sp.) was selected as a productive zakat asset because it is safe, easy to maintain, does not require large areas of land, is suitable for the natural environment of Sooko Village, and has sustainable economic value. This activity concludes that the selection of productive zakat assets should be conducted in a participatory and contextual manner so that empowerment programs can be accepted by the community, do not burden beneficiaries, and have the potential to improve long-term economic independence.
