Abstract

The study aims to describe the types of idioms and analyze the theory of idiomatic meaning contained in Oka Rusmini's novel "Tarian Bumi" based on Abdul Chaer's semantics. This research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The data in this study consist of excerpts of sentences containing idioms, and the research data source is Oka Rusmini's novel "Tarian Bumi." Data collection was conducted through reading and note-taking. Data analysis techniques were carried out through data reduction, classification of full and partial idioms, meaning analysis, and interpretation based on the context of the idiom's use in the text. The results showed that 36 idioms were identified and classified as full or partial. A complete idiom is an expression that experiences a shift in meaning as a whole, making it impossible to convert based on the lexical meaning of its constituent elements. A partial idiom is an expression that still has a meaningful connection with one of its lexical elements. The use of idioms in Oka Rusmini's novel Tarian Bumi serves to describe the characters' inner states, reveal the dynamics of social relationships, and intensify the conflict in the story. It also serves as an expressive means that enriches the story's meaning and deepens the reader's understanding.
