Abstract

This study aims to analyze the narrative structure in the novel Midnight Diaries by Malioboro by Skysphire based on Tzventan Todorov's Theory. This study uses descriptive qualitative research. The data are in the form of excerpts from the novel's narrative structure to understand the storyline, character development conflicts and the meaning contained in the novel. Data analysis is used with five stages of Todorov's narrative structure, namely equilibrium (initial balance), disruption (disruption of balance), recognition (awareness of the disturbance), repair (efforts to repair the disturbance), and new equilibrium (new balance). The results of the study show that the novel Midnight Diaries by Malioboro by Skysphire is based on Tzventan Todorov's Theory through the relationship of friendship, love, loss, and the emotional healing process of the main character. Through the experience of the main character, readers are invited to realize that the sadness that arises from loss is not the end point. Thus, this novel teaches that self-acceptance and letting go of the past are important aspects in a peaceful life.
