Abstract

Attachment is one of the factors influencing the quality of romantic relationships in early adulthood. When an individual's attachment style is categorized as anxious attachment, relationship satisfaction and quality tend to be low. This study aims to examine the effects of father involvement and childhood adversity on anxious attachment in early adult romantic relationships. The scales used in this study include the Nurturant Fathering Scale (Finley & Schwartz, 2004), the Child Abuse and Trauma Scale (Sanders & Becker-Lausen, 1995), and the Experiences in Close Relationships Questionnaire-Revised (Fraley, Waller, & Brennan, 2000). The data collection technique used was purposive with participants being early adults aged 18–29 years who had been or were currently in a romantic relationship, resulting in a total of 255 respondents with 62 male dan 193 female. The results showed that father involvement did not significantly influence anxious attachment, whereas childhood adversity had a significant effect on anxious attachment. Given the long-term impact of childhood adversity on anxious attachment in adulthood, it is crucial for parents to be aware of the importance of proper parenting programs to create a safe and supportive home environment.
