Abstract

In contemporary music teaching, music teachers utilize instructional media to heighten students’ musical abilities, such as the students’ ability to read music notation. In learning music notation itself, there are various music notation software applied to optimize students’ music learning - one of them is MuseScore. MuseScore is a free music notation software that is implemented in various contexts, such as in schools, music courses, choirs, orchestras, and others. Unfortunately, there were limited studies in Indonesia that have already examined MuseScore as a music instructional media in the classroom. This research aims to analyze MuseScore's implementation as instructional media and its capability to improve music notation reading skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Strada Santa Anna. This research method is classroom action research. The researcher conducted pre-test and post-test on the variable and control classes. The classroom research was carried out in three meetings, with a duration of 90 minutes for each meeting. After conducting pre-test and post-test, the two results were analyzed and investigated to determine the average scores of both classes, the score improvements, and their percentages. The data analysis results showed that the implementation of MuseScore as a music instructional media could improve the music notation reading skills of seventh-grade students. These results indicated that the increase in average score percentage is higher on the variable class students, which is 18.07% compared to 10.02% for the control class students. Bahasa Indonesia Abstract:Pada pengajaran musik era kontemporer, guru seni musik memanfaatkan media pembelajaran guna meningkatkan kemampuan bermusik pada siswa, seperti kemampuan membaca notasi balok. In contemporary music teaching, music teachers utilize instructional media to heighten students’ musical abilities, such as the students’ ability to read music notation. Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a disorder that involves the cognitive, emotional, behavioral, social areas. This is caused by a gradual decline in cognitive abilities. The existence of children with ASD crucially requires special attention, instead of being shunned and even ostracized. In the learning of children with ASD, music learning can contribute significantly to their changes and development. This music learning can be learned through playing simple rhythmic instruments. In learning simple rhythmic instruments for children with ASD, one approach that can be used is the Orff-Schulwerk approach. The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of the Orff-Schulwerk approach to enhance students with ASD learning outcomes in simple rhythmic instruments lessons. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, as it focuses on the analysis to determine whether the Orff approach can be the suitable approach in improving students with ASD learning outcomes through simple rhythmic instruments. This research was conducted for 8 weeks at the Special Education Special Service (PKLK) Growing Hope, Bandar Lampung. The results of this study were an increase in the development of students with ASD after being exposed to the Orff-Schulwerk approach. The analysis results of this study can provide insight to parents, teachers, and institutions that deal with children with ASD so they can provide the appropriate music lessons that suit their needs. Bahasa Indonesia Abstract:Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) merupakan gangguan yang meliputi area kognitif, emosi, perilaku, dan sosial. Abstract

Students-turned-into-teachers encounter a transition process during their early years of teaching. In recent years, there has been considerable discourse on how crucial this transition process is. Scholars have suggested that the first five years of teaching are the determining factor””whether these novice teachers choose to stay in their profession, or otherwise. While this topic has become one of the utmost concerns by scholars in the education field, its study on music education is still limited. Thus, this research aims to explore and investigate the transition process of music education undergraduate students who became novice teachers, particularly at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). UPH is one of the leading universities in Indonesia that serves a Music Education program for undergraduates. Using phenomenology case study, the data was collected through semi-structured interviews of two graduates of the Music Education Program at UPH who became music teachers in formal institutions. The secondary data of this research were the interviews of the respondents’ work colleagues and lecturers, as well as the questionnaires of 31 alumni of the Music Education Program. Overall, this research focused on three aspects of the respondents’ transition process, which are: (1) their challenges; (2) their perception; (3) their preparation program. The evidence showed that the graduates of the Music Education Program at UPH have experienced both positive and negative transition processes throughout their early careers. The most significant challenges of their transition are doing administrative tasks and class management. This research has also found that the university program gave a significant impact on preparing these newly-appointed teachers, in terms of their music teachers’ identity, and their professionalism in the work field. This research heightens the awareness and knowledge on how the university can improve the preparation program for music education graduates to face their transition process as beginning music teachers.

During and after the pandemic COVID-19, blended learning began to be applied in teaching music, such as in Classical Piano Instrument Class at the Conservatory of Music, Pelita Harapan University. However, some stakeholders still doubt whether blended learning is a suitable approach in Classical Piano Instrument Class, as the lesson is heavily based on practical and hands-on learning. Besides, there are still many university students and lecturers who are less skilled and difficult to adapt to this new method. Consequently, it can influence the music students’ satisfaction level regarding the learning that they experience. Therefore, the authors were interested in analyzing the students’ satisfaction with blended learning in Classical Piano Instrument Classes and explored factors that influenced it. This research employs a quantitative approach using a questionnaire. The authors analyzed the data using descriptive and inferential statistics. Based on the research result, the factors that have the most influence on student satisfaction in the Classical Piano Instrument I class at the Conservatory of Music are (a) Reliability, Class Organization, and Technology Quality at 60,1%, followed by (b) Assurance at 53,1%, and (c) Evidence & Technology Quality with 46,0%. Moreover, the findings of this research conclude that the majority 55,6% of the music students were satisfied with blended learning.
