Abstract

Indonesian plays an important role in the spread of Islam in the archipelago. Since the dawn of Islam, Malay, the forerunner of Indonesian, has been used as a lingua franca in trade and preaching. This makes it easier for traders and Islamic scholars to communicate with local communities and spread Islamic teachings. The influence of Indonesian in the spread of Islam can be seen from several aspects, namely: Translation of Islamic texts, Islamic education, Da'wah, mass media. The use of Indonesian in the spread of Islam has had a significant impact on the development of Islam in Indonesia. Currently, Islam is the majority religion in Indonesia with more than 200 million adherents. Indonesian has become a unifying language for Muslims in Indonesia and helps them to understand and practice Islamic teachings better.
