Abstract

Islam requires Muslims to fast during the month of Ramadan as a form of obedience to Allah SWT. Fasting has many benefits, both spiritually and health-wise, but there are certain provisions, such as the prohibition of fasting for women who are menstruating. This article discusses the reasons behind the prohibition of fasting for women who are menstruating, both from a theological and medical perspective. From an Islamic perspective, this prohibition is based on the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith, which provide convenience for women by considering their physical and spiritual conditions. From a health perspective, menstruation causes hormonal fluctuations, fluid loss, and increased energy needs, so fasting during this period can worsen physical and emotional symptoms, such as fatigue, cramps, and low blood sugar levels. Thus, the prohibition of fasting during menstruation is not only to maintain spiritual purity, but also to protect women's physical and psychological health. This article aims to explain the relationship between the prohibition of fasting and women's health conditions during menstruation, as well as provide a clear view of the harmony of Islamic teachings with health principles.
