Abstract

The phenomenon of sholawat being sung is related to the normalization of deviance in Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative approach to explore public perspectives on sholawat practices that incorporate elements of music and entertainment. The findings reveal two opposing viewpoints. One group sees this practice as a deviation and misuse of traditional values, while the other views it as an innovation that enriches spiritual experiences. Through interviews and observations, this study illustrates the challenges of balancing tradition with modernity, and how understanding misguided teachings can undermine the integrity of religious practices. The results provide insights into the interactions between culture and religion, as well as the social impact of sholawat singing practices on Indonesian society. Therefore, this article emphasizes the need for awareness and reflection in adapting religious practices to remain relevant and consistent with Islamic teachings.
