Abstract

H.G. Wells’ Tales of Space and Time is a collection of classic science fiction stories exploring themes of human ambition, discovery, and the relationship between technology and morality. These stories, written in early 20th-century English, are rich in imagination but contain linguistic and cultural elements that may be difficult for modern Indonesian readers to grasp. This research aimed to develop a casual Indonesian translation of Tales of Space and Time using a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach. The procedures of this research consisted of analysis, design, development, expert validation, and field testing. Nababan’s theory about translation quality was applied to create a translation that is accurate, acceptable, and readable for contemporary readers. Data were collected through document analysis, expert validation forms, and reader questionnaires. The results indicated that the translation fulfilled the criteria of linguistic clarity, cultural adaptation, and message equivalence. Therefore, the developed translation is considered suitable for modern Indonesian audiences.
