Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe the elements of ethnomathematics in the architecture of the Pasiraman Umbul Binangun complex in Tamansari, Yogyakarta, while also analyzing the philosophical and spiritual meanings embedded within it. The research design employed in this study is qualitative descriptive research using an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The results of the study indicate that the architecture of this Pasiraman not only displays concepts of plane geometry; including rectangles, circles, triangles, and regular octagons, but is also rich in philosophical and spiritual meanings. This is reflected in the use of symmetry in the overall layout, which symbolizes balance and order, as well as the five-petaled lotus flower ornamentation, which symbolizes feminine perfection. These findings confirm that this local cultural heritage contains not only mathematical elements but also holds moral and spiritual values, making it an authentic and meaningful context for mathematics education.
